About the Author​

Robert Spriggs

My family moved from my birthplace of Minneapolis when I was two years of age, settling in San Diego. I graduated from UC San Diego as a Health Science major and Stanford Medical School with a Master’s in Physical Therapy.

I have a lifelong interest in literacy. It began at a young age with my parents, Edward and Laura’s nighttime readings of children’s fiction and basic science.

Dad sparked my interest in science by providing wide-ranging exposure including astronomy. Many weekend nights were spent observing stars and planets through his telescope, spurring my knowledge and imagination.

Mom provided Hardy Boys novels when I was thirteen and confined to home all summer because of a serious bicycle accident. I was fascinated with the adventures of Frank and Joe Hardy and became addicted to reading fiction.

My parents took my older brother, Edward, Jr. and I to a drive–in theatre when we were very young to see the ground-breaking science fiction film, Forbidden Planet. The eerie electronic music along with the invisible monster gave me nightmares for years. Despite that, it spurred my interest in science fiction. Although the monster in that film has some commonality with the extraterrestrial in my novel, Inscrutable Liaisons, the novel’s creature is much more complex.
Inscrutable Liaisons received stellar reviews, some if which recommended that it be adapted into a film.

My first novel, Urban Ambrosia published 2020, is based on personal experiences in the African American diaspora along with my decade of experience working in the California State prison system as a healthcare professional.
Most characters in it are struggling to re-establish their lives
The novel earned a top (4-star) rating by the Online Book Club.

I have been married for almost 50 years to a beautiful woman who has inspired my development, as an author and as a man. We reside in N. California. We have three children and numerous grandchildren, most of whom live in California.
